per crucem, ad lucem

through the cross, to the light

PCAL Overview

Per Crucem, Ad Lucem is a professional coaching practice committed to helping men navigate growth and transformation through a framework that integrates the Bible, brain science, emotional intelligence, and purposeful action.
The name—Latin for “Through the Cross, Toward the Light”—reflects the conviction that meaningful change begins with the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, the perfect God man. The cross represents both sacrifice and renewal—an invitation to die to old patterns and rise toward light, freedom, and purpose. This is the invitation for all men.

(01) Rooted in Romans 12:1–3, we believe transformation happens through the renewal of the mind and the surrender of the heart. Each client is invited to discern God’s will for their life and embrace the process of growth, perseverance, and calling that leads to true spiritual and personal wholeness. It requires acostly sacrifice.

(02) Per Crucem, Ad Lucem offers a curated coaching journey that helps men find healing and freedom from unwanted sexual behavior while learning to live as men of integrity and purpose. Participants walk either in a group setting or 1:1, discovering that change happens best through shared story, accountability, and grace. This process explores six roots of addiction and their corresponding growth areas:

• Root of Addiction: A Sexualized Society, An Addicted Brain, Isolation, Negative Emotions, Trauma, Shame.

•
Growth Area: Practical Holiness, Renewing the Mind, Authentic Accountability, Processing Your Emotions, Replacing Lies with Truth, Living Out Your Identity in Christ

(03) Program Length:
• 3-month or 6-month coaching engagements
• Month-to-month option available

• Each session is 90 minutes

Ongoing Support:
• Two brief 15 minute phone check-ins per week for accountability, care, and encouragement

(04) Through the cross, I walk alongside men toward the light—toward wholeness, clarity, and spiritual freedom. I believe every struggle can become a place of transformation as God renews the mind, redeems personal history, and restores purpose. Coaching is not about perfection, but about honest engagement, deep formation, and lasting change rooted in grace.

(05) John Paul’s story is one of brokenness met by redemption—of confronting generational sin and experiencing ongoing healing from habits formed early in life. Raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, by a single mother alongside his younger brother, he grew up in the church yet experienced a disconnect between faith and everyday life. His adolescence and early adulthood were marked by sexual brokenness and a deep pursuit of approval through performance, accompanied by a persistent sense of never being enough.

It wasn’t until his twenties that he began to understand the roots of that pain and the ways it shaped his behavior and identity. Through intentional discipleship, counseling, and formation, he learned to lean into weakness rather than hide it—allowing God’s power to be made perfect there. He continues to live from the conviction that grace, not performance, is sufficient, and that Christ’s strength is most clearly seen in honest dependence.

After graduating from Texas A&M University, John Paul moved to Dallas in 2006 to serve with Young Life. He has been married since 2009 to his greatest supporter and partner in ministry, and together they are raising three children.
